Our Governing Document
The Constitution of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention is the foundational document that guides our organization. It outlines our structure, membership requirements, leadership roles, and operational procedures.
The Constitution was originally adopted to ensure that our Convention operates with integrity, accountability, and faithfulness to Baptist principles. It establishes the authority of member churches while providing a framework for unity and cooperation.
Current Constitution
The current constitution was revised and adopted at the 110th Annual Session on February 15, 2025, in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, Republic of Liberia.
Key Constitutional Provisions
Name and Authority The name of the Convention is the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc. (LBMEC, Inc.). The authority of the Convention is enshrined in the member churches, which are independent and sovereign in their own sphere while agreeing to abide by the Constitution.
Objectives Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Convention promotes the Christian faith, bears witness to the Gospel, promotes unity among member churches, serves as a resource for evangelism and education, and acts as an agency of reconciliation.
Membership The Convention comprises Church Members, Life Members, General Members, and Honorary Members. Churches are the principal organizations of which the Convention is composed.
Structure The Convention is organized with a President, National Vice Presidents, Regional Vice Presidents, County Coordinators, and various Commissions and Committees serving the work of the Convention.
Amendments The Constitution can only be reviewed and amended once every ten years by a two-thirds majority vote of accredited member churches at an Annual Session.
